Don't Let Them Mail Your Credit Card
55Pick Up Your Credit Card at The Bank
My bank did something stupid when we were up for renewal on our credit cards. They mailed them. My husband and I got ours, but our daughters card did not show up. A week later we got a call that it had been used in a store in another city, but luckily they were caught.
The bank tried to explain to us, that the card cannot be activated unless you activate it from your home phone number. So how did her card get into the wrong hands, and still be able to use it?
Make sure to get your cards at the bank.. It is just much safer. We had to start all over again, and get new cards. I am getting awfully close to using cash only again, like in the 50's. I think we will end up coming full circle.
We migrated to credit card use so as not to carry so much cash and be in danger of muggings, but we are still being victimized. If you don't stay on top of your credit card and report discrepencies right away, you may be liable. So, far we have been lucky, and with internet banking, we can see charges right away.
But what about seniors, and people who are not computer savvy, or don't even own one. They may not find out until their next statement, which could be weeks away. The banks want to know right away for it to be reversed.. Guard your cards... and report problems right away. I let them know my daughters card had not shown up, and they said "wait a bit longer", and look where that got us?
